On Mother's Day, Brunch Will Be Big

Is your restaurant staff prepared for the Mother's Day rush on Sunday, May 12?

Mother's Day is one of the most popular holidays of the year to dine out, and Toast recently released a report in which they analyzed their platform data from full-service restaurants (FSRs) from Mother’s Day 2023 and compared it to the average Sunday in 2023.

Their data found that FSRs see a 51% increase in volume compared to the typical and average Sunday.  There are 14% more transactions on Mother’s Day than on the average Sunday, and people are willing to spend more with the average ticket size on Mother’s Day being 32% higher compared to the average Sunday in 2023.

It seems like brunch is going to be this year's jackpot daypart, with 45% of transactions on Mother’s Day happening during brunch (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) in 2023.

This means restaurants should have a boozy brunch menu available, driven by mimosas and spritzes, as Toast found wine sales increase 15% on Mother's Day, with sparking wine sales leading the category with an increase of 99% on Mother’s Day compared to the average Sunday in 2023.

Beer also sees a 6% bump on Mother's Day, while other spirits all see a decline, showing the dominance of beer and wine on this particular Sunday.

The major takeaways? Make sure you have all staff on deck for Mother's Day, a killer brunch menu, and plenty of bottles of bubbly!
