With just hours to go before its grand opening, workers spent the afternoon and evening putting the finishing touches on Sinergee, the latest nightclub to hit the building at 16 Colony St.

Known in its heyday as The Vault, the three-level former bank building has been home to other clubs like Club Xcstasy, The Vault a second time, Club Impulsz and Essence Lounge, Mambo’s, and most recently Lounge 16. The latest attempt, owner Michael Carusone said, is hopefully the most successful.

“Not all of those clubs had the money to invest like we have,” said Carusone, adding that he and his wife Evelyn have put between $350,000 and $400,000 into the project.

The building has been fully renovated with a bar, VIP lounge and dance floor on the first floor, in addition to the vault room. The second floor features its own dance floor overlooking the first floor, as well as a standing area and a martini lounge.

“I grew up in Meriden, I love Meriden,” Carusone said. “We just wanted to give something to Meriden where people can go, have fun, mingle and meet new people.”

He said the nightclub fills a void in the downtown area, which has lacked nearly any form of sustained nightlife in recent years. Carusone said he hopes the opening of the club could help spur business for nearby restaurants and eateries.

“There’s not a lot there right now,” Carusone said. “And if people want to go to a nice club, they have to go to Hartford or down to New Haven or even Stamford.”

The top floor features a sports bar with several flat screen TVs, a bar and a pool table. The area, Carusone said, is for those, especially men, who are not big into the club scene, but are looking for something to do.
