Registration Now Available for the Center for Alcohol Policy 2010 Legal Symposium

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Registration is now available for the Center for Alcohol Policy’s (CAP) Third Annual Legal Symposium to be held October 24 – 26 at The Fairmont Dallas in the heart of downtown Dallas, Texas.  Some of the best legal minds in the country will gather at the Symposium to explore, debate and discuss current alcohol laws and the challenges facing them. Visit www.centerforalcoholpolicy.org to register today!

“The basis for alcohol regulation is being challenged in several states,” said CAP Advisory Board Chairman and former Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro. “This gathering is a great opportunity for regulators, public health community advocates, elected leaders, alcohol beverage industry insiders and others interested in alcohol issues to come together to share insights and ideas regarding current alcohol regulation and litigation.”

The Honorable Roy Cooper, North Carolina Attorney General and President of the National Association of Attorneys General, will deliver the keynote presentation, which will reflect on the role state attorneys general play in policy debates about alcohol, a state’s role under the 21st Amendment, the importance of society’s interest in fighting the abuse of alcohol, underage drinking and overall efforts to fight crime and protect small businesses and consumers.

Other presenters include John Ansbach, Chief Legal Officer, Mothers Against Drunk Driving; Steven Diamond, University of Miami Professor of Alcoholic Beverage Law; Harley Duncan, Managing Director, Washington National Tax KPMG LLP; Michael Madigan, Madigan, Dahn & Harlan; Jim Petro, former Ohio Attorney General; and Robert Tobiassen, Chief Counsel, Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

The Symposium will also feature educational sessions on topics such as “Public Health Perspectives on Alcohol Regulation,” “Legal Developments in Fighting Drunk Driving,” “Defending State Liquor Laws Under the 21st Amendment: A State Perspective,” “Alcohol Regulation’s Important Role in Tax Collection” and “The Role of Religion in Alcohol Regulation.”  Also, a brand new offering for this year’s attendees is a session on ethics for CLE accreditation.
