Recipes for National Margarita Day

CGA by NielsenIQ’s latest cocktail tracker revealed that the margarita is still the number-one cocktail in the country for the on-premise. With National Margarita Day on February 22, there's a chance for your bar/restaurant to spotlight this popular cocktail recipe. We've rounded up a collection of margarita recipes for you to feature on your cocktail menus this week and beyond.

Giddy Up Pony 

Ingredients:

1 oz Cazadores tequila

.5 oz agave

.5 oz Ilegal Mezcal

.5 oz green chartreuse

.5 lemon juice

5 dashes jalapeno tincture

Directions:

Shake with ice, strain, and serve in cocktail coupe.

Punch Your Lights Out

Ingredients:

Apple slices (optional)

Cinnamon sticks (optional)

1 1/2 tablespoons spiced black tea

12 ounces sweet vermouth

1 750 mL chilled bottle Eleven20 Reposado Tequila

12 ounces chilled apple cider

8 ounces lemon juice

4 ounces of chilled demerara syrup

16 dashes Angostura bitters

24 ounces chilled club soda

Garnish: Rosemary, Star Anise

Directions:

Prepare this cocktail a day prior. Chose a 1 pint or 1 quart size glass or plastic pitcher. Fill with water and add apple slices and cinnamon sticks.  Freeze over night or until solid. Combine the tea and vermouth in another container, let it sit for about for 90 minutes, then strain, and put in the refrigerator. Put in a punch bowl the tea-infused vermouth, the Eleven20 Tequila, apple cider, lemon juice, demerara syrup, bitters, and then stir. Top off with club soda. Serve in desired glass, add desired garnishes.

I Want to be a Mezcal Margarita

Ingredients:

1.5 oz Amaras Espadin

.75 Fresh Lime Juice

.50 oz Blackberry/Jalapeno Syrup 

3 Blackberries

Directions: 

Add the berries in a tall glass and muddle and fill the glass with crushed ice. In a shaker add the mezcal, syrup and juice. Shake vigorously and double strain into the tall glass. Garnish with lime wheels against the inside of the tall glass, berries, and a slice of jalapeno. Edible flower optional.

Inspiro Skinny Margarita

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz. Inspiro Tequila

1 1/2 oz. lime juice

1/4 -1/2 oz. agave syrup, to taste

Directions:

Combine all ingredients, shake over ice and pour into margarita glass.

Desert Pear Margarita

Ingredients:

1 1⁄4 ounces of Santo Mezquila

1⁄4 ounce of Triple Sec (or any high-quality orange liqueur)

1 1⁄2 ounces of prickly pear syrup

1⁄2 ounce of fresh lime juice

2 ounces of sweet & sour mix (recipe on page 235)

Rim: fresh lime and sugar

Garnish: fresh lime wheel

Directions:

Run a fresh lime wedge around the rim of a chilled margarita glass, roll the moistened rim in sugar, then fill the glass with ice and set aside. In a cocktail shaker, add the Santo Mezquila, Triple Sec, prickly pear syrup, lime juice and sweet & sour mix. Shake well and pour into the prepared glass. Garnish with a fresh lime wheel and serve.

High Roller Margarita

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz Tequila Cazadores Extra Añejo

¾ oz Grand Marnier

¾ oz agave nectar

3 wedges lime

3 wedges lemon

1 wedge orange

Directions:

In a cocktail shaker, muddle limes, lemons and orange. Add the rest of the ingredients with ice, shake and serve up in a cocktail glass. Garnish with lime and orange peel.

Paloma Preserve Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz grapefruit juice

½ oz lime juice

¼ oz agave simple syrup

1 ¼ oz Sotol

Directions:

Build in glass rimmed from 12-6 with salt, fill with ice and top with soda. Garnish with lime at 10 o’clock.

Devil's Margarita

Ingredients:

1½ ounces Volcán Tequila Blanco

1 ounce fresh lime juice

⅔ ounce simple syrup

⅔ ounce fruity red wine

Directions:

Pour tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass and slowly pour the red wine into the drink using a bar spoon.

Dos Hombres Spicy Grapefruit

Ingredients:
2oz. Dos Hombres Mezcal
2 oz. Grapefruit Juice
3/4 oz. Lime Juice
Chili Powder

Directions:

Pour 2 oz. of Dos Hombres Mezcal into a rocks glass with 2 oz. of grapefruit juice. Mix with 3/4 oz. of lime. Add a dash of chili powder and shake.

Ghost Mango Margarita

Ingredients:

2 oz Ghost Tequila

1.5 oz Mango Juice

.75 oz Lime Juice

.50 oz Agave Syrup

Mango Slice and Lime Wheel Garnish

Directions:

Add Ghost Tequila, mango juice, lime juice, agave syrup and ice to shaker. Shake vigorously. Pour into glass of choice and garnish with a slice of mango and a lime wheel.

Sparkling Margarita Recipe

Ingredients

1 part Altos Plata Tequila

3/4 part Cointreau

1/2 part fresh lime juice

1/2 part tsp agave

1 bottle of Campo Viejo Cava

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a shaker and add ice.  Shake and strain into a chilled coupe or champagne flute. Top with Campo Viejo Cava. Garnish with lime wheel.

Crystal Coconut Margarita

Ingredients:

1 oz Herradura Ultra Tequila

1 oz Herradura Reposado Tequila

1 oz Rumhaven coconut rum liquor

0.5 oz Jones House Triple Sec

0.25 oz Simple Syrup

0.75 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Directions:

Rim a Collins glass with salt and fill with ice. Pour all ingredients into small shaker tin and fill with ice. Close shaker and shake for 5-10 seconds. Strain contents of shaker over the fresh ice in glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Ingredients:

2oz Cantera Negra Silver

1oz lime

.5oz agave syrup

Orange bitters

Directions:

Shake and strain over ice in double rocks glass. Add 2 dashes of orange bitters giving a nice orange essence without any added sugar.

Inspiro Pink Lady Margarita

Ingredients:

1.5 oz of Inspiro Tequila

1 oz Lime Juice 

.25 oz Honey

4-5 strawberries and raspberries 

1 -2 oz of Club Soda (as desired)

Directions:

Muddle berries at the bottom of a shaker. Add Inspiro Tequila, lime juice, honey, and ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a glass of your choice filled with ice. Top with soda water.

Candela Margarita 

Ingredients:

1.5oz Candela Mamajuana

0.75oz of Cointreau (or any orange liquor) 

1 oz fresh lime juice 

0.5oz agave 

Salt rim optional 

Directions:

Shake up Cointreau, Lime Juice and Agave with ice. Stir in Candela Mamajuana. Pour over a glass filled with light ice and serve.

Don Ramón's Celery Margarita 

Ingredients: 

1½ oz. of Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Plata

¾ oz. of agave nectar

⅓ cup of chopped celery

¾ oz. of pineapple juice

¾ oz. of Green Chartreuse liquor (Although this ingredient is optional, it is a perfect addition)

8 Basil leaves

1 Curly celery (Garnish)

Directions:

Combine tequila, basil leaves, and celery in a mixing tin without ice. Muddle. Add agave nectar, pineapple juice, Green Chartreuse, and ice. Shake vigorously. Strain over crushed ice into snifter glass. Garnish with curly celery and serve.
