Yes, that SpaceX, the Elon Musk one. The one that wants to colonize Mars.
SpaceX is technically hiring for a ‘Spaceport Mixologist’ in Brownsville, TX. Which means, sadly, you’ll still be Earth-based. But who knows where the opportunity could lead? At the very least, you can be an integral part of history, keeping the SpaceX team comfortable as they work to bring humans to space. According to the Visit Brownsville website, this location is a launch site and spaceport for SpaceX’s next-generation launch vehicle, Starship.
The job application says they’re looking for candidates with “superior mixology experience” and a “focus in resorts, bars and full service restaurants” to join their culinary team and work across their numerous food service outlets.
Brownsville is a town on the western Gulf Coast in South Texas, right across the border from Matamoros, Mexico. It’s about five hours south of Austin, but you can be sipping margaritas in Mexico in less than ten minutes, which sounds like a fringe benefit to me…
In all honesty, the job posting is disappointingly normal. Responsibilities include: preparing drinks, providing courteous customer service, following restaurant guidelines and maintaining “organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment”. Applicants should have at least two years of work experience making handcrafted cocktails at high volume, creating pairings, and the ability to ‘chop, stir, scrape and scrub’.
