“Dear friends, due to the war activates against our country bar is closed. Be safe and stand with Ukraine UA.” That was the post that Parovoz SpeakEasy, one of the World’s Best Bars, posted yesterday, February 24th, 2022, as Russian troops invaded Ukraine.
On their stories, they posted something else. A simple plea to the bar community at large. You’ve probably seen it, it went viral overnight, with almost every major personality in the industry reposting it. But Instagram stories only last for 24 hours, so Bar & Restaurant reposts it here in its entirety, without comment.
Ours is truly a global community, and our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and those affected.
The letter reads:
“Dear Bar Community
We need your support because Russia attacks our country!
We are, the bartenders of Ukraine, ask you to spread the information about this act of aggression of Russia against Ukraine as much as you can!
Ukraine didn’t want war, we are at home, and our army is protecting our cities, our families. This morning we woke up at 5 a.m. because of the explosions – it was shelling from Russia. There is no excuse for this. Russia must pay the ultimate price for these actions, for this war. It is a crime against humanity.
And be sure, if Ukraine falls – Russian bombs will lend in European cities. It will be a matter of time if you don’t support us. We hope to meet you at the Barometer Bar Show and bars in our Ukrainian cities in the future! We want you to come.
Even your repost will show that the bar community is united and in solidarity with us.
We need you more than ever.
If someone thinks that this is politics and there is no place for it in a bar – this is not politics, this is survival!
