Success Stories: Beachbum Berryas Latitude 29

In line with the current tiki bar movement across the country, Jeff “Beachbum” Berry opened his own location, in New Orleans last November.  Located in the French Quarter’s Bienville House, Latitude 29 has seen huge success since its opening.

Berry, the world’s leading tiki expert, unlocked the classic recipes of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s after extensive research.  Today, the drink menu, composed of 40% tiki classics and 60% original recipes, draws crowds from near and far.  Undeniably, their most served drink remains the ever-popular house named “Latitude 29”, made from eight-year Demerara rum, passion fruit purée, their own Madagascar vanilla syrup, orange, pineapple and lemon.

Upon opening, Berry hired a dream team of local bartenders who all hold that indescribable “aloha” mentality.  His bar staff is also well versed in classic and contemporary craft cocktails.

Latitude 29 owes as much of its success to its restaurant as it does to its bar.  Chef Chris Shortall developed a “PolynAsian” menu, combining Asian flavors like never before.  Some of the standout menu items include a pork dumpling burger, a Cuban sandwich with homemade pineapple bread and a squid Caesar salad.

Between the exceptional drinks, the delectable menu and the hand-carved tiki décor, Latitude 29 is a must-see while in New Orleans.
