Last month, Bar & Restaurant announced an exciting development for Nightclub & Bar Show: a co-location with the World Tea Conference & Expo. Nightclub & Bar Show has been North America’s premier industry conference for over 30 years, and the World Tea Conference & Expo – which was due to take place in Colorado – is the most influential gathering for the tea community. Now, both events will be held simultaneously at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 28-30.

The popularity of low and no alcohol beverages is booming – so bringing these two events together means operators can get a head-start on learning how to incorporate tea into their beverage and food menus. “This will allow mixologists and operators to taste and experience fine teas, opening their eyes to the flavor profiles that tea has to offer them,” explained FaithAnn Bailes, Conference & Content Manager for World Tea Conference + Expo. “Tea is so similar to wine, and just as delicious. Come get tea drunk and experience all the aromas and tastes! Most people are at the point where they don’t even know how much they don’t know about tea.”
Tea also yields a shockingly high profit margin, making it a powerful ingredient for boosting revenue. Use it in syrups, infusions, zero-proof cocktails and even as part of your food menu. “Tea yields the highest profit margin of anything else on the menu,” explains Bailes. And beyond that, it implies an attention to detail and creativity that will help your venue stand out to guests. “Good tea indicates that you really care about your food and drink, and management actually cares enough to serve quality across the board.”

We spoke with Bar & Restaurant Vice President, Tim McLucas, to get a deeper understanding of the reasons behind the co-location, and how this benefits operators like you.
Why are you excited to bring the Nightclub & Bar Show and the World Tea Conference & Expo together?
Business growth. The Nightclub & Bar Show is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and is recognized as the leading beverage event in North America. To retain this mantle, and to address today’s fast changing needs of the industry, we need to constantly evolve the education, experience and engagement for attendees, suppliers, speakers and the whole industry. We need to help them meet the needs and demands of their clients and customers for today, and tomorrow.
How do you think the co-location will benefit the Bar & Restaurant community?
By creating new business opportunities to help operators attract new guests, increase guest frequency, increase check size and ultimately boost sales. In addition, it’s strengthening the event and cementing it as the key source of information for the industry, where operators can go to find the education, information and engagement they need to succeed in their specific business endeavors, to stimulate discussion and accelerate growth.

Why are you bringing the two events together now?
Customer tastes and preferences are changing rapidly and one of the fastest growing trends today is the low and no alcohol segment, which is expected to reach a staggering $1 trillion by 2024. Embracing this exciting segment and educating the industry on the business benefits of implementing low and no alcohol beverage alternatives in their venues, is key to optimizing guest experience and satisfaction.
What’s the yield like on tea, from a financial perspective?
In general, $0.70 of tea ingredients can create $5-7 tea beverage in a mid-level restaurant.
There are some misconceptions around tea, especially amongst bar and restaurant operators. How do you hope this co-location will change their perception?
Education is powerful and has consistently been one of the top priorities of attendees who visit the Nightclub & Bar Show. Operators are eager to understand what the latest trends are to support their future business investments and decisions. By providing the right type of educational programming, and showcasing how tea and tea-related products can enhance an operator’s ability to expand their business opportunities, we hope to demystify tea. We want to present it as an accessible and profitable opportunity, one that can rapidly be a real option for new business growth and customer satisfaction.
