Cocktail trends are influenced by many factors, including region. What's trending in New York may not be on menus in New Mexico, and what's considered popular in California may be a relative unknown in Connecticut.
Fortunately, NoDepositFriend.com recently offered a glimpse into how the country is split on cocktails in its new The Most Popular Cocktail in Every State infographic. To gather the data, NoDepositFriend.com used Google Trends to analyze the search volumes for 100 of the most well-known cocktails over the past 12 months. They also conducted a nationwide survey of 1,768 adults over the age of 21 who reported consuming at least one alcoholic beverage per month.
Aside from finding the top cocktails in each state, the research revealed some other interesting findings:
- The average person consumes 5.9 cocktails per month and 2.2 cocktails per night out.
- The highest price most will pay for a cocktail is $15.54.
- Americans spend an average of $24.26 on drinks per night out.
As for the findings on the top cocktails, the results may be surprising. Check out the graph, below.
The margarita, which consistently tops the list of favorite cocktails, only showed up in Alabama as the top cocktail. Similary, the well-loved pina colada only made the list thanks to West Virginia.
Instead, the old fashioned was the number-one cocktail across the country, with 21 states electing it as their favorite cocktail.
Following the classic cocktail trend, the second most popular cocktail in America is the martini, ranking number one in 10 states. With multiple outlets predicting the growing demand for the martini, you may want to consider adding more than one option to your cocktail menu.
The Manhattan is in third, with five states choosing it as their top tipple. Right behind it is the cosmopolitan with four states saying it is their most popular cocktail.
